The Shangri-La group of hotels in Penang recently hosted the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Penang Chapter HR Meeting 2026, bringing together close to 70 HR directors and hospitality professionals from across the state.
Held at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, the gathering drew participants from both Penang Island and Butterworth, reflecting the diversity and breadth of HR functions within Penang’s hospitality industry.
The programme centred on key workplace issues affecting the sector, beginning with an insightful presentation on workplace harassment by guest speaker Dr. Nadzah Yusof.
Being a former Assistant Director of Labour with the Ministry of Human Resources, Dr. Nadzah is a respected industry practitioner who holds both an MBA and a Doctorate in Organisational Behaviour from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Following the presentation, attendees participated in roundtable discussions on employee turnover and service charge practices. HR leaders exchanged experiences, challenges and perspectives on workforce retention, service delivery and evolving industry expectations, fostering meaningful dialogue and knowledge-sharing across participating properties.
Lending support was the Cluster GM of Shangri-La Penang Jegan Selvarajah and also John Kim, Resident Manager of the St Giles Wembley Penang.
The event concluded with a networking session, providing delegates with the opportunity to strengthen professional connections, exchange best practices and continue discussions beyond the formal programme.
