Shangri-La Golden Sands, Penang paid tribute to Malaysia’s most cherished cultural icon with the launch of its Nostalgia P. Ramlee Buffet, held alongside a heartfelt Iftar celebration for children from the Penang Islamic Orphanage Home at the Garden Café.
The evening blended heritage, compassion, and community spirit, capturing the essence of Ramadan in a celebration that was both elegant and deeply meaningful.
The event was graced by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr) Yussof Latiff, President of the Penang Malay Association, his wife Puan Seri Suziwati Baidawi, and Natasya Nasir, granddaughter of the legendary Tan Sri P. Ramlee. Their presence underscored the evening’s tribute to the late entertainer’s enduring influence on Malaysia’s cultural landscape.
A total of 53 children—27 boys and 26 girls—joined the official launch ceremony. The celebration began with a ribbon-cutting officiated by Jegan Selvarajan, General Manager of Shangri-La Golden Sands and Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, together with the distinguished guests. Following the ceremony, attendees toured a special exhibition showcasing P. Ramlee memorabilia and iconic costumes, offering a nostalgic look into the life and artistry of the nation’s beloved star.

The night’s entertainment paid homage to P. Ramlee’s timeless legacy. Suhaimi bin Ahmad, a P. Ramlee impersonator, captivated the audience with a soulful tribute performance featuring several of the legend’s classic hits. Adding to the cultural vibrancy, students from Taman Sejahtera National Secondary School delivered a spirited Boria performance, a hallmark of Penang’s rich artistic tradition.
The Nostalgia P. Ramlee Buffet itself was a feast for both the eyes and palate, with décor and culinary presentations inspired by the charm and elegance of P. Ramlee’s era. Guests and children shared in a warm, communal Iftar meal, reflecting the values of unity and generosity that define the holy month of Ramadan.

A touching moment came when Natasya Nasir was surprised with a birthday cake, drawing smiles and applause from the crowd. The evening concluded on a joyful note as the resort presented each child with duit raya (festive money), spreading cheer and goodwill throughout the celebration.
The Nostalgia P. Ramlee event stood as a heartfelt tribute to Malaysia’s golden era of entertainment while embodying the true spirit of Ramadan—compassion, togetherness, and giving back to the community. Through music, culture, and generosity, Shangri-La Golden Sands created a night that beautifully honoured both tradition and humanity.
