Playing its role as a caring corporate citizen, Shangri-La Golden Sands, Penang has stepped in to support families affected by a recent fire in Kampung Din Bamboo, Batu Feringgi, where 11 closely built wooden homes were destroyed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The hotel’s in-house fire response team assisted local fire and rescue services at the scene, helping to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby homes.

In the aftermath, Shangri-La Golden Sands provided affected families with complimentary temporary accommodation for three nights, offering a safe space to recover and make arrangements for longer-term housing, as well as to seek assistance from local authorities and the community.
Resort General Manager Jegan Selvarajan reaffirmed the hotel’s commitment to supporting the surrounding community during times of need, noting that the team acted swiftly to deliver immediate relief and assistance to those impacted. “We have provided immediate support to ensure that those affected, especially children and the elderly, have a safe and comfortable place to stay as they begin the recovery process,” he said.
Local authorities continue to assess the situation and coordinate further aid for displaced families. Kampung Din Bamboo, a long-established settlement of over 50 years, consists largely of closely built wooden homes, which contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
