Penang’s hospitality sector is set to receive another boost with the arrival of a new Marriott International brand on the mainland, reflecting growing confidence in the state’s business and tourism potential.

The Iconic Hotel will be rebranded as Courtyard by Marriott Penang Icon City, following the signing of a franchise agreement between Iconic Group and Marriott International.

The move marks another significant step in the evolution of Penang’s hospitality landscape, as the state continues to attract both international visitors and business travellers.

Present at the signing ceremony held recently were Iconic Group Chairman Dato’ Seri Tan Kean Tet, Executive Director Katherine Tan and Iconic Group General Manager Pauline Chua, while Marriott International was represented by Vice President, Hotel Development, Asia Pacific, Andree Susilo.

The hotel is expected to undergo a comprehensive renovation programme, with completion targeted by the end of the year.

The upgrade will include refreshed guestrooms, enhanced facilities and improved guest experiences in line with the Courtyard by Marriott brand standards.

Located within Icon City and strategically positioned near key industrial zones on the mainland, Courtyard by Marriott Penang Icon City is expected to become a preferred accommodation choice for corporate travellers, particularly those visiting Penang’s thriving manufacturing, technology and business sectors.

The hotel is also poised to appeal to leisure travellers seeking convenient access to Penang’s attractions, offering connectivity between the mainland’s emerging commercial areas and the island’s established tourism offerings.

The entry of another Marriott brand reinforces Penang’s growing appeal as a destination for investment, business travel and tourism, while strengthening the state’s position as a regional hub with an increasingly diverse hospitality ecosystem.
