In conjunction with World Cleanup Day, volunteers from various organizations and communities gathered at three different locations across Penang to do their part in preserving the environment and raising awareness about waste management.

In Georgetown, participants from Yayasan Modal Insan Harta, the Buddhist Tzu Chi Merits Society Malaysia (led by Dato’ Khoo Boo Leong), the Malaysian Association of Hotels (Penang Chapter), staff from Lone Pine Hotel, the Penang Island City Council, as well as dedicated hikers from Penang Hill.

Volunteers concentrated their efforts along major streets and public spaces including the Esplanade, Bishop Street, Green Hall, Pitt Street, Love Lane, Union Street, and Chulia Street. A total of 15 volunteers from Tzu Chi Malaysia, alongside volunteers from Yayasan Modal Insan Harta, participated in this urban cleanup drive. A total of 34.5kgs of refuse was collected.
Over at Batu Ferringhi, members of MAH Penang and Yayasan Modal Insan Harta joined forces to clean the beach and its surrounding areas. The initiative was supported by MAH Penang Vice Chairman and Lone Pine Resort general manager , Dato’ Gulab Mahatam Rai, who was present with his team to lead by example. They collected a total of 98.85 kgs of rubbish.

Meanwhile, at Penang Hill, approximately 17 environmentally conscious hikers took time out of their usual trekking routines to help clean up the trails and natural surroundings, ensuring that the area remains pristine for all visitors. They collected 25.6kgs. of rubbish.
Kudos to all the volunteers for demonstrating outstanding civic responsibility and environmental awareness. Their efforts serve as a reminder that collective action can lead to meaningful change.
World World Cleanup Day is a global social action movement aimed at tackling the solid waste crisis, including land-based and marine debris. Held annually on September 20, the initiative is spearheaded by the international organization Let’s Do It! World, headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia. Each year, millions of volunteers from over 150 countries participate, uniting for a cleaner, healthier planet.
