Calling all golfers to tee off for a good cause at the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Penang Chapter Merdeka Charity Golf Tournament 2026, which will be held at Kelab Rekreasi Tentera Udara, Butterworth, on Sunday, Sept 6, 2026.

Proceeds from the tournament will be channelled to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Setia Ikhlas Pulau Pinang to support its charitable projects and initiatives across the state.

Further details of the tournament were announced in the presence of Penang State Executive Councillor for Youth, Sports and Health YB Daniel Gooi, together with representatives from MMA led by MMA Penang Branch Chairman Dato Dr Parmjit Singh. Also present were Dato Dr Kulwaran Singh, Dr V. Divagar and Dr Jaianand J. Tejani held at the G Hotel earlier this morning..

In his opening address, Gooi said he was pleased to support the Merdeka Charity Golf Tournament 2026, describing it as an initiative that brings together sportsmanship, unity and, most importantly, charity.

“Golf is more than just a sport. Events such as this bring together people from different backgrounds and professions with a common purpose. Through our participation, we are not only enjoying a healthy sporting activity but also contributing towards a meaningful cause and helping those in need,” he said.

Gooi also encouraged golfers, corporate organisations, friends and members of the public to come forward and support the initiative through participation in the tournament, attendance at the charity dinner, event sponsorships or donations.

“Every contribution can make a difference,” he said.

He added that the Penang State Government had always encouraged initiatives that promote an active lifestyle, community engagement and social responsibility.

“This tournament is a wonderful example of how sports can unite the community and create a positive impact beyond the golf course,” said Gooi.

Meanwhile, Dr Kulwaran welcomed corporates and individuals to support the initiative and make the tournament a meaningful golfing experience while contributing to a worthy cause.

The tournament will be followed by a fellowship dinner, providing participants, sponsors and supporters an opportunity to come together and celebrate the spirit of Merdeka, camaraderie and giving back to the community.
