Food stall operators at the Kompleks Astaka Stadium along Jalan Datuk Keramat who were affected in a recent fire received financial assistance from the office of the State Exco for Housing, Local Government. Town and Country Planning and office of the Member of Parliament for Jelutong.

The food court is a popular hangout for the neighbourhood residents and even more so when the Penang state team plays its home games.

On hand was YB Jagdeep Singh Deo and YB RSN Rayer to hand out the cheques.

A total of RM88,000 was distributed to some 18 operators there.

The fire which broke out on Jan 18, 2023 had damaged the roofing, furniture and other equipment at the foodcourt.

“We hope that this financial assistance will help the operator untill repair work is being undertaken by the Penang Island City Council

“The contribution today is from my office and the office of the Member of Parliament on a 50/50 basis. We are mindful of the hardship and suffering of the operators here,” said Jagdeep at the handing over ceremony.

He also added that the budgeted repair work is at RM189,847.00, it will come to RM200,000 with other minor works required.
