The StarCity Hotel in Alor Star is featuring its 20 ft Christmas tree made out of recycled materials, namely out of mineral water bottles.
With their theme of “Recycling Colours“ the Xmas tree sits in their main lobby area.
The used bottles were collected over a period of three months from guest rooms by their housekeeping team.
“The Christmas tree is aimed to show the beauty of how recycled products can be used to usher in the Christmas celebration. It is the inspiration of the operations department.
“The idea came to fruition with the help of the maintenance department team along with staff members from the various departments,” said Eugene Dass, the general manager of the hotel.
In all, a total of 2,000 odd bottles were used for this tree which is also to symbolize beauty in simplicity during this Christmas.
“We believe in constantly finding ways to do our part for the environment and to reduce wastage in our hotels,” says Dass, who is also working out with his team to see how they can use recycled bath soaps for the tree next year.
The hotel is also running a “guess the number of bottles” contest where customers can guess the total number of bottles used and stand a chance to win free night stays including in their Studio Suite worth RM480 nett a night.
The hotel also will be featuring its Christmas Eve buffet dinner at the Paddy Café on the eve of Christmas (Dec 24) with main dishes like roasted turkey, roast chicken, grilled items and other Christmas delights will be made available on the buffet spread.
The buffet dinner is priced at RM65 (adult) and RM55 (child) from 7pm to 10pm.
