Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana), the operator of public transport services in the Klang Valley and Penang, continues to record positive growth for its Rapid On-Demand (ROD) service, with daily ridership increasing consistently and reaching more than 19,000 passengers in total by the end of 2025.

This performance reflects the growing acceptance of flexible, user-friendly, demand-based mobility services, particularly in supporting the movement of local communities.

Currently, a total of 301 Rapid On-Demand vans are operating across 82 service zones in the Klang Valley and Penang. The service helps connect local communities to the existing rail and bus networks, especially in areas not covered by fixed bus routes or where travel demand is more targeted.

According to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad’s Head of Strategy and Planning, Sharul Azwa Abd Rani, the response to the service has become increasingly positive in line with rising awareness of local mobility needs. “Rapid On-Demand provides a more convenient and responsive travel option, particularly for short-distance trips and as a feeder to major public transport services,” he said.

Application enhancements for a better user experience – In line with the growth of the service, Rapid Bus has also enhanced the Rapid On-Demand application, which has served as a single booking platform since 15 November. These improvements include system stability, clearer trip information displays, and more consistent waiting-time management, based on user feedback gathered throughout the implementation period.

These efforts aim to ensure a smoother and more predictable user experience, in line with Rapid On-Demand’s role as a practical and accessible first- and last-mile complementary service.

End of the Rapid On-Demand promotional fare period – As part of Rapid On-Demand’s transition into a more stable and sustainable operational phase, the promotional fare period introduced during the Proof of Concept (POC) phase in 2023 will end on 31 January 2026.

From 1 February 2026, Rapid On-Demand will operate with a fixed fare of RM2 per trip. In line with this adjustment, holders of My50, Rapid Kota, Rapid Kembara, and Rapid Keluarga passes will also be required to pay this fare for each trip.

Sharul Azwa Abd Rani said, “Unlike train and fixed-route bus services that operate on set schedules and routes, Rapid On-Demand is a unique service with more dynamic service zones and virtual stops that can be adjusted according to operational needs. This actual operating fare is important to support service continuity and ongoing improvements to the user experience.”

For Rapid KL On-Demand services in the Klang Valley, holders of Rapid Pelajar and Rapid Emas concession cards will continue to enjoy a 50 per cent discount, while holders of the Rapid Mesra (Persons with Disabilities) concession card will continue to enjoy free travel.

Meanwhile, for Rapid Penang On-Demand services, Pas Mutiara holders will continue to enjoy free travel.
