Penang is the first state in the country to have implemented the smart parking application for the whole state.
Currently, there are some 12,000 parking lots on the island and another 24,000 parking lots on the mainland. This makes a total of 36,000 parking lots overall.

State Exco for Housing, Local Government, and Town and Country Planning, Jagdeep Singh Deo said that the state has some 73 smart applications for various functions in the state which is also the highest in the country.

“We plan to have some 100 smart applications by another two months. The usage of cutting edge technology will help us to get our daily routine without contact especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.

“I also call on the general public to not let their guard down in the fight against Covid-19. Just because there is a vaccine for covid-19, we should not take it easy.

“I also call on both of the councils to enforce strict standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure the fight against the pandemic is ongoing,” said Jagdeep.

Citing the number of cases for covid-19 is back to three digits, Jagdeep called for stern action by the respective councils.

He also paid tribute to the MBPP enforcement officers for their dedication and hard work throughout this pandemic.

Also present at the press conference was State assemblyman for Komtar, Teh Lai Heng who represented the Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, Penang City Council secretary, Datuk Addnan Mohd Razali and Hei Tech Padu Berhad business director, Safarudin Ban.

Meanwhile, according to Safarudin, the smart parking app will also help motorists locate empty parking lots in the city.
“To this end, it will also highlight those who have not paid or topped up for their parking by lots. Elderly folk who are not familiar with the smart parking application, they can get their friends or family members can pay by just keying in the car numbers.
