Penang is once again in full bloom as orchid lovers from across Asia convene for the annual Penang Orchid Show, currently underway at Straits Quay Retail Marina and running until September 28, 2025.

This year’s event sees participation from passionate growers and enthusiasts from Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, and host country Malaysia.

A stunning showcase of over 800 pots representing 75 species of orchids is on display, transforming the venue into a vibrant celebration of floral beauty and botanical artistry.

The event was officially launched by YB Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Tanjong, who also announced a RM20,000 contribution in support of the event’s organisation.

In her opening speech, Lim praised the Penang Orchid Show not only for its breathtaking display of nature’s wonders but also for its role in fostering cross-cultural exchange and environmental awareness.

“This gathering allows visitors to celebrate not only the splendour of orchids, but also the creativity, commitment, and collaboration that bring this festival to life,” she said.

Lim highlighted the symbolic nature of orchids, describing them as:“Among nature’s finest creations—resilient, elegant, and diverse. They remind us that even in the toughest environments, beauty can bloom when nurtured with patience and care.”

Reflecting on last year’s event, Lim also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organising committee for naming a newly introduced species, the Dendrobium Lim Kit Siang, in honour of her father’s legacy and contributions to Malaysia.

“My family and I are deeply touched, and we will always treasure this living tribute.”

She further noted the show’s growing impact, describing it as a driver of eco-tourism, a platform for conservation education, and a celebration of Penang’s unique blend of heritage and green living.

Adding to the prestige of the event, a panel of 34 international judges is on hand to assess the orchids based on colour, bloom quality, overall plant health, and vigour—ensuring high standards and fierce but friendly competition among growers.

Also in attendance was Tony Tan, President of the Federation of Malaya Orchid Society (FOMOS), along with key committee members who have played a vital role in nurturing the orchid community across the region.

The Penang Orchid Show continues to be a much-anticipated annual highlight, uniting enthusiasts and experts while promoting appreciation for the natural world—one exquisite bloom at a time.
