In conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), a nationwide welcome unfolded across 52 international entry and exit points, setting the tone for a year of unforgettable travel experiences. From airports to cruise terminals, welcoming ceremonies were held simultaneously across the country to greet international visitors arriving on the very first day of the year.

In Penang, guests were warmly received at Penang International Airport and the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal, where Tourism Malaysia Deputy Chairman Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin personally welcomed arriving travellers. He was joined by key tourism leaders including Dato’ Tony Goh, Chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (Penang Chapter), Ms Carolyn Leong, Chairman of MATTA Penang, and Penang Global Tourism CEO Ooi Chok Yan, among others.

Visitors were treated to thoughtfully prepared goody bags and a vibrant traditional kompang performance, offering an authentic taste of Malaysian hospitality and culture from the moment they arrived.

The simultaneous celebrations across major international gateways and transportation hubs marked the official launch of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, reinforcing Malaysia’s reputation as a warm, welcoming, and culturally rich destination.

“Visit Malaysia 2026 is more than a tourism campaign—it is a nationwide movement that reflects our unity, warmth, and cultural diversity. By welcoming travellers on the first day of the year, we demonstrate Malaysia’s commitment to delivering an inclusive, creative, and memorable tourism experience throughout 2026,” said Tourism Minister, YB Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing.

The nationwide welcome ceremonies were made possible through close collaboration between state governments, airlines, airport authorities, tourism industry players, and strategic partners, highlighting a united effort to elevate Malaysia’s global tourism appeal.

As part of VM2026, Malaysia will roll out a year-long calendar of more than 300 events celebrating the nation’s multicultural identity, artistic heritage, and festive traditions. Highlights include the VM2026 Chinese New Year Festival, Aidilfitri Festival, Deepavali Festival, and Christmas Fest, alongside iconic cultural celebrations such as Tadau Kaamatan and Gawai Dayak.

Through Visit Malaysia 2026, the country aims to welcome 43 million international visitors, reinforcing tourism as a key pillar of national economic growth while inviting the world to experience Malaysia’s diversity, culture, and legendary hospitality.
