Step into a vibrant celebration of art, culture and personal expression at the solo exhibition by Lisette Scheers, now showing at China House along Beach Street.
This thoughtfully curated showcase offers an intimate look into the artist’s creative world, inviting visitors to experience the beauty of Malaysian flora and fauna through her distinctive lens.
On display are 22 intricately hand-drawn pieces, each inspired by the rich diversity of Malaysian herbs and spices, from petai and ginger to kacang botor and ulam. Through delicate lines and careful composition, Scheers captures not only the textures and forms of these local treasures, but also their deep connection to heritage and nature.
Scheers, the creative force behind NALA Designs, is a designer, artist and entrepreneur known for her signature hand-drawn style. With her flagship outlet located just opposite China House and additional outlets in Kuala Lumpur, her work is guided by a simple yet powerful philosophy: “to make life more beautiful for everyone.”

Having called Malaysia home for over five decades, Scheers continues to draw inspiration from its people and landscapes. “I have been in Malaysia for the past 52 years and simply love the people, sights, sceneries and nature here,” she shares an affection that is clearly reflected in every piece on display.
Adding a personal layer to the exhibition, Scheers reflects on her journey and creative process:
“I had worked as a waitress for Narelle McMurtrie (China House), so this exhibition feels quite full circle. My passion for flowers has always been deeply ingrained, both in my personal work and in what I do with NALA.
“For this series in particular, I approached it slightly differently. I drew the backgrounds and vases first, and then created the flowers separately. Only after that did I pair them together, much like in real life, where you choose a vase to suit the flowers you have. It became quite an intuitive and personal process.”

While not all pieces in the exhibition are for sale, each work offers a close-up appreciation of Malaysia’s natural beauty. Located on the second floor of China House along Beach Street.
The exhibition will run until the end of May 2026.
Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in this delicate and deeply personal body of work, where every illustration tells a story of place, passion and artistic evolution.
Lending support to the project is Narelle, owner of China House, Bon Ton Resort Langkawi and founder of Langkawi Animal Shelter & Sanctuary Foundation (LASSie) and her friends.
