Langkawi’s air connectivity received a timely boost with the arrival of a direct charter flight from Hong Kong, marking a significant step forward for the island’s tourism and hospitality industry.

The inaugural Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) flight touched down at Langkawi International Airport (LIA) yesterday, carrying 165 passengers eager to explore the island’s natural beauty and cultural charm.

The passengers were warmly received by Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Iskandar Mohd Kaus, along with LIA Manager Che Sulaiman Che Pa and other key stakeholders in the tourism sector.

The charter service is being coordinated by You Wings Holidays Sdn Bhd, as part of an initiative to tap into the Hong Kong travel market and promote Langkawi as a premier island destination in Southeast Asia.

According to sources, the next chartered flight from Hong Kong is scheduled for Friday, August 22, 2025.

This addition complements Langkawi’s growing list of international connections, which already includes:

  • Daily direct flights from Bengaluru, India via IndiGo Airlines
  • Chartered flights from Poland operated by LOT Polish Airlines

Chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Kedah/Perlis Chapter, Eugene Dass, welcomed the new development, stating it could significantly benefit the island’s hospitality industry.

“We are confident that these charter flights will attract more visitors to Langkawi, especially during the “shoulder seasons”. This will help boost occupancy rates and generate additional business for our member hotels and resorts,” he told Penang Hyperlocal.

With the revival of travel across Asia, Langkawi is well-positioned to leverage increased regional connectivity, and this latest initiative signals growing confidence among international tour operators in Malaysia’s tourism rebound.
