In an effort to up the ante to showcase their culinary selections, the G Hotel in Penang is pleased to announce the appointment of Chef Jack Yap, the new Executive Sous Chef.
In this role, Chef Jack will be responsible for providing strategic direction to the property’s talented culinary team and overseeing the property’s food and beverage outlets, Spoon – all day dining outlet and Gravity rooftop bar.
Originally from Kuala Lumpur, Jack Yap’s culinary career is inspired by his love and respect for the art of cooking since the age of 16 years old.
After graduating from culinary institute Cilantro Culinary Academy, Jack sought opportunities to further develop his own creativity.
To continue mastering his culinary skills, he took the opportunity to enrol in one of Singapore’s famed culinary institutes- SHATEC (Singapore Hotel & Tourism School) and got a certificate in Patisserie & Bakery. During his apprenticeship he worked for L’Angelus French restaurant.
It was since then that he developed a love for French Cuisine.
Chef Jack’s signature dish inspired him from the time he worked at the French restaurant – Beef Cheek with a twist of local spices to give the kick flavours. Chef Jack’s cooking style is defined by inspiring and preserving the original flavours of fresh ingredients as well as smoothly combining Western and Asian culture.
Chef Jack joins G Hotel with over 16 years of experience in the hospitality industry having worked at some of the most well-respected restaurants and hotels in Singapore. Most recently, Chef Jack held the position of Head Chef at The Plattering Co. in Singapore.
Prior to this role, Andre held Sous Chef and Chef De Partie positions at several restaurants and hotels including The Fullerton Bay Hotel, Club Street Social and Au Petit Salut.
He also brings with him additional past experience within G Hotel brand, having served as Executive Sous Chef in the year 2018.
“I am a firm believer that food should bring the ultimate joy to the consumers, and believes that the creative approach to cooking creates a viable excuse to get together at the table,” said Chef Jack.
“My vision is to provide guests an exceptional and memorable dining experience by introducing a renovative and characteristic food menu that satisfies the taste buds of international guests around the world, while also recognizing the Penang celebrated culinary heritage.”
Meanwhile Michael Hanratty, general manager of G Hotel expressed his delight in welcoming Chef Jack on board the team.
