A grand fundraising dinner was held at the Berjaya Hotel to generate additional funds for the restoration and upkeep of Malaysia’s oldest Gurdwara, the historic Wadda Gurdwara Sahib in George Town.
The event was spearheaded by Penang Deputy Chief Minister II, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo, and received strong support from Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow.
Also present were State EXCO member YB Lim Siew Khim, MBPP Mayor Dato’ A. Rajendran, as well as numerous corporate sponsors, community leaders, and donors who came together in solidarity for the noble cause.
During the dinner, Chow announced that the state government would be contributing RM200,000 towards the fundraising drive. The Wadda Gurdwara Sahib, which stands at an impressive 124 years old, is recognised as a Category One Heritage Site—making preservation efforts both urgent and significant.
In his address, Jagdeep expressed heartfelt gratitude to all well-wishers and supporters for their generosity and commitment to safeguarding the heritage landmark.

“In total, the state government has contributed approximately RM500,000 to this project. On top of that, I am pleased to announce an additional personal contribution of RM50,000, while our Chief Minister has generously pledged RM200,000,” he said.
Jagdeep added that the collective contributions from the state, donors, and the Sikh community reflect the shared responsibility of preserving one of Penang’s most treasured cultural and religious sites for future generations.
