The Eastin Hotel Penang ushered in the Year of the Horse in the Lunar calendar with a lively and meaningful Lion Dance performance, bringing festive cheer and positive energy to guests, staff, and visitors.
The celebration reflected the hotel’s appreciation for cultural traditions while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone present. The Lion Dance troupe gracefully paraded through the hotel’s vibrant outlets, back-end offices, and function rooms, bestowing auspicious blessings upon every corner of the hotel.
Adorned in brilliantly coloured costumes, the majestic lions leapt and swayed with spirited energy to the rhythmic crescendo of drums and clashing cymbals, captivating onlookers and filling the air with delight and anticipation. In keeping with cherished tradition, the lions playfully scattered coins and “consumed” the symbolic fatt choy, a meaningful gesture believed to usher in prosperity, flourishing success, and abundant good fortune for the year ahead.

The event was graciously officiated by Dato’ Tan, Chairman of Eastin Hotel, alongside Director Arthur Chen and Hotel Manager Winnie Suzan Yip, as they took part in the auspicious ceremonial lion blessing. Steeped in rich tradition, this symbolic ritual is performed to usher in prosperity, happiness, and smooth operations for the year ahead.
Their presence and participation not only elevated the occasion but also reflected a deep commitment to honouring cultural heritage and sharing its significance with both valued
guests and dedicated team members.
Following the vibrant Lion Dance performance, guests were warmly invited to partake in the Yee Sang tossing ceremony, which is one of Malaysia’s most cherished and eagerly awaited Chinese New Year traditions.
Gathered around the table in high spirits, participants lifted their chopsticks to toss the vibrant medley of ingredients skyward, joyfully exchanging heartfelt wishes for abundant health, resounding success, and enduring happiness. The spirited laughter and animated well-wishes filled the air, creating a festive and harmonious atmosphere that beautifully strengthened the bonds between guests, esteemed VIPs, and the dedicated hotel team.
“This celebration is our way of bringing people together and sharing the joy of the festive season,” said Winnie Suzan Yip, Hotel Manager of Eastin Hotel Penang. “The Year of the Horse represents energy, determination, and progress, and we hope these values will carry through the year for our guests, colleagues, and partners.”
