As families gather across the world to reunite and celebrate the ancient Mid-Autumn Festival, The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi presents four new mooncake flavors, expertly crafted by the culinary maestros at Hai Yan, Langkawi’s only modern Chinese restaurant.

Led by executive Chinese chef, Chef Travis Loh and baked by Hai Yan’s multitalented dim sum chef Kit Wong, Hai Yan invites guests to indulge in our Celestial Traditions: two classic mooncakes and two delicate snow skin mooncakes, presented in an elegant box in the auspicious color of red.

The origins of The Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mooncake Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, is an ancient festival celebrated by the Chinese diaspora, whereby friends and families gather and present each other with mooncakes that symbolize unity and the joy of togetherness. In line with the resort’s tagline “A Legend Reinvented”, the mystical tale of the goddess Chang’e and the Jade Rabbit inspired the creation of this year’s mooncakes.

The Legend of Chang’e is about a skilled archer named Hou Yi who saved humanity by shooting down nine suns, which were scorching the earth and its people. Hou Yi received the elixir of immortality from the Queen Mother of the West as a reward for his bravery, but didn’t consume it as he didn’t want to be immortal without Chang’e. He passed it to her for safekeeping, but Chang’e had to swallow the elixir to protect it from a treacherous apprentice who wanted it, and as a result, she ascended into the sky and became the Goddess of the Moon. Hou Yi was heartbroken after hearing of Chang’e’s sacrifice, and after seeing a shape on the moon that looked like Chang’e, he displayed her
favorite fruits and cakes, to show her he missed her. Touched by their love, the Mother of the Moon allowed them to reunite every Mid-Autumn. The Jade Rabbit is a divine creature who helps to prepare the elixir of immortality, living on the moon with Chang’e.

Baked Classics: Single Yolk with White Lotus and Dried Tangerine Peel & Fragrant Red Bean Date – Adorned with the Lion & Crown, feast on two nostalgic flavors that evoke memories of gathering with loved ones at home, to enjoy the smooth flavor of the Single Yolk with White Lotus mooncake, or the comforting taste of red bean with dates, with the tangy aroma and mouthfeel of dried tangerine peel.

Snow Skin Delights: Lychee and Peach & Butterfly Pea and Pandan – A more modern twist on the traditional baked mooncake, these soft, snow skin mooncakes represent the luminosity of the moon, from the blue-hued Butterfly Pea & Pandan, which incorporates fresh butterfly pea flower and pandan from the resort’s own Nibong Garden, to the fragrant and vibrantly colored Lychee and Peach Snow Skin Mooncake.

Available for takeaway and dine-in, Hai Yan’s mooncakes are made fresh and require at least 48-hours advance booking. Pre-orders can be made from now until October 5, 2025 through the official Offers page, or by emailing
