In conjunction with Wesak Day, which will be celebrated tomorrow, 31 May 2026, and the Birthday of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on 1 June 2026, the Penang Port Commission (SPPP) and Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. (PPSB) are pleased to announce that free ferry services will be specially offered to Malaysian citizens for two (2) days, namely 31 May 2026 and 1 June 2026.
This free ferry service will be available for journeys from both ferry terminals: Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (first trip at 6:30 a.m. and last trip at 11:00 p.m.) and Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda (first trip at 7:00 a.m. and last trip at 11:30 p.m.).
Members of the public are advised to plan their journeys in advance and refer to the latest ferry schedules through the official websites and social media channels of SPPP and PPSB.
This initiative reflects the continued commitment of SPPP and PPSB to making travel more convenient for Malaysians, especially during this meaningful festive period. The free ferry service is not only intended to help reduce traffic congestion in Penang but also to encourage the use of more sustainable and efficient public transportation. In this regard, I would like to invite Malaysian citizens to take advantage of this free ferry service.
Based on two-way ferry service statistics during the 2025 Wesak Day celebrations, more than 7,127 foot passengers and 2,221 two-wheeled vehicles used the ferry service. These figures contributed to the total annual ridership in 2025 of 2,347,066 foot passengers and 784,065 vehicle passengers (two-wheeled vehicles).
With the provision of this free ferry service, I hope it will help ease the financial burden on Malaysians while also providing an opportunity for the public to celebrate Wesak Day and the Birthday of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in a more meaningful way.
SPPP and PPSB remain fully committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure that the ferry service operates smoothly. The comfort, safety, and satisfaction of customers will continue to be top priorities for Penang Port.
