Turkiye makes the biggest presence at LIMA 23 currently on-going at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC).

Having around six booths at the showcase, they displayed a variety of equipment from hand guns, rifles, drones, aircraft engines, naval ship models, helicopters and the lot. 

Other big names at the event were Airbus, Boeing, Thales Group, Brazil’s aircraft manufacturer Embraer among others.

Meanwhile, Embraer displayed their model, the E195-E2 on the tarmac. Trade visitors were allowed to inspect the passenger aircraft up-close which offers passenger comfort with economic maintenance. 

LIMA 23 which is making a comeback after the pandemic was launched  yesterday by the Minister of Transport Anthony Loke. Also present was Defence Minister Dato Seri Mohamad Hasan.

The event is organised by Alpine Integrated Solutions Sdn Bhd.

Other participating countries are China, South Korea, UK, France, Bulgaria, UAE, Indonesia, Thailand, Italy,  Germany, Singapore, Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia, Belgium and Czech Republic. 

The aerobatic show was led by the Jupiter team from the Indonesian Air Force, August 1st (Air Force of the People’s Republic of China), Russian Knights (Russian Air Force) and the Black Eagles (Republic of South Korea Air Force).

The Russian aerobatic team flew its impressive Sukhoi SU-35S and Su-30SM fighter aircrafts.

Several Memorandum-of-Understanding (MOU) were also signed during the gathering. Other programmes were talks, seminars, conventions related to the defence industry.

The bi-annual event has also brought much needed economic activity to the holiday island. 

Hotels, airlines, restaurants, transport operators, tourist attractions, malls, ferry operators among others stand to benefit from the showcase.

According to Eugene Dass, the chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels Kedah/Perlis, most hotels are ready to welcome LIMA after it has taken a back seat for more than two years due to the pandemic.

“As such we welcome this LIIMA 2023 and we look forward to more such event as it will set Langkawi on the world stage,” said Dass.
