Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai paid a visit to the Penang International Airport to inspect the newly installed units of the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISE) at both the departure and arrival halls.

Also present were Ismail Mokhtar, Deputy Director (Management – Operations) of the Border Control Agency; Ooi Chok Yan, CEO of Penang Global Tourism; as well as officers from the respective agencies.

The new system has been rolled out with five units at the departure hall and six units at the arrival hall. With NIISE, arriving travellers can be processed within six seconds, eliminating the need to queue at immigration counters.

According to Ismail, a total of 625 NIISE units are being installed at entry and exit points nationwide. Personnel will also be stationed at selected locations to assist passengers during the transition period.

During the visit, Wong also inspected the upgraded e-hailing area, which now features air-conditioning and more comfortable seating for passengers.

“I visited this e-hailing area in November last year with the airport manager and noted that there are around 2,000 e-hailing vehicles coming to the airport,” said Wong.

The latest upgrades at the airport also include improved signage and new electronic display boards to enhance passenger navigation and overall travel experience.
