Serving the community has long been at the heart of Sunway Hotels, and in Penang, this commitment continues through a meaningful tradition of supporting devotees during the annual Thaipusam festival.
This year, Sunway Hotel Georgetown and Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya once again joined hands in the spirit of unity and compassion to contribute to the Thaipusam celebrations. Through a thaneer panthal set up along Jalan Dato Keramat as part of the chariot procession, both hotels served complimentary vegetarian meals to nearly 1,000 devotees.
The initiative was marked by a sense of calm, gratitude and festive camaraderie as devotees queued patiently while being attended to by Sunway colleagues.
Volunteers from both hotels, dressed in traditional attire, dedicated their time and energy to the effort, reflecting Sunway’s strong culture of care, inclusivity and respect for cultural diversity. Beyond meal service, the team also supported on-site preparations and participated respectfully in the religious and cultural observances.

Hotel Manager of Sunway Hotel Georgetown and Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya, Nagaswaran Pon Rama Krishnan, shared that the initiative was especially meaningful for the team, as it allowed them to represent Sunway during an important religious and cultural occasion, while reinforcing the Group’s core values of service, respect and giving back to the community.
This Thaipusam Corporate Social Responsibility initiative underscores Sunway Hotels’ ongoing dedication to community engagement, bringing people together, serving with heart and honouring traditions that matter to the communities we proudly serve.
