What an incredible throwback — the iconic frosted doorway of Borsalino Disco, once one of Penang’s hottest nightspots, still stands at PARKROYAL Penang Resort, weathered by time but rich with memories.

For those who remember, stepping through that door meant entering a world of pulsing lights, electrifying music and unforgettable nights.

Back in the golden days of the ’80s and ’90s, Batu Ferringhi wasn’t just a beach destination — it was the beating heart of Penang’s nightlife.

Locals and tourists alike would brave the winding coastal roads just to feel the energy that radiated from its legendary clubs. Friday and Saturday nights were epic !

Borsalino was the crown jewel — a vibrant hub where top deejays like DJ John Boy, DJ Peter Carlos, DJ Bernard and DJ James Naras spun tracks (vinyl records too) that had dance floors packed till the early hours.

The disco had elevated areas and a sunken dance floor which made it unique at that time.

The soundtrack of those nights was pure retro magic: Michael Jackson, Prince, Kool & The Gang, Shalamar, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, George Benson, Lionel Richie, Madonna, Duran Duran, The Police, Blondie, ABC, Bananarama, New Order, Spandau Ballet, Queen, ABBA —artists whose songs defined an era.

Just down the road, the iconic Cinta Sayang Disco at the Rasa Sayang Resort and The Study at the Mutiara Beach Resort added their own unique flair to the Batu Ferringhi party scene.

The Study, with its intimate, intellectual vibe, was the place for smooth grooves and cocktails, while Cinta Sayang was known for its live bands, romantic ambience and beachside charm.

DJ Joe and DJ Frankie kept the dance floor alive at The Study, while DJ Allan made waves at Cinta Sayang with his smooth R&B and disco mixes.

These clubs weren’t just places to dance — they were social institutions, where friendships were forged, romances sparked and memories made under the glow of strobe lights and the rhythm of timeless tunes.

Today, only traces remain — a crumbling archway here, a faded sign there — but for those who lived it, the spirit of Batu Ferringhi’s nightlife will never fade. The music, the laughter, the fashion, the freedom — it was truly an era to remember.
