Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang, hosted a special lunch at Spice Market Café for five brave children undergoing cancer treatment and their immediate families to celebrate World Cancer Day.

The event was funded by the Golden Ribbon of Hope campaign, launched at the resort’s Christmas Lighting Ceremony in November 2025 and running through December.

Each child received RM3,333 in financial support, eco-friendly products, and food hampers, presented by General Manager Jegan Selvarajan and witnessed by Dr. Shoba Annee Thomas, Paediatrician Oncologist from Penang General Hospital.

The gesture reflects the resort’s dedication to the community amid Malaysia’s cancer rise, ranking as the fourth leading cause of death with a 50% case surge from 2012-2022.

The honoured children include Nur Amna Nadhirah Mohamad Firdaus (age 5), Dhia Batrisya Abdul Halim (age 14 years 8 months), Nur Fitrah Aliya Annisa (age 7) and Aufa Imani Ali Ibnu (age 2), all diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic or myeloid leukaemia.

The event also paid tribute to Gathirravan A/L Ravi (age 6), represented by his parents following his passing during the fundraising period; he had battled osteosarcoma, a bone tumour.

“The Golden Hope Ribbon Christmas Tree fundraising initiative is very close to our hearts and truly reflects the spirit of compassion, generosity, and togetherness that defines the festive season. We are honored to contribute to this meaningful cause and stand alongside World Cancer Day in supporting these incredibly brave children and families.”  said Jegan Selvarajan, General Manager of the resort.

International guest donations powered the campaign, aligning with the “United by Unique” theme, which centers personal cancer stories and equitable care.

Syabas to Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Penang and its team for carrying out the commendable deed.
