Members of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Penang Chapter gathered in the spirit of camaraderie and industry collaboration for their Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at the elegant Fifth Avenue Hotel yesterday.
Welcoming delegates was MAH Penang Chapter chairman Dato Tony Goh alongside his organising committee, setting a warm tone for the occasion. Also present were MAH vice president Dato Khoo Boo Lim and MAH CEO Isaac Raj, who had travelled from Kuala Lumpur.
In his opening address, Goh reaffirmed Penang’s standing as a vibrant force within Malaysia’s tourism and hospitality landscape.

“MAH Penang continues to be a powerhouse of Malaysian hospitality,” he said. “We are proud to welcome 13 new member hotels, contributing an additional 1,714 rooms. This brings our total membership to 109 hotels, representing 17,384 rooms across the island and mainland.”
He noted that this steady growth reflects strong investor confidence and reinforces Penang’s appeal as a premier destination for both leisure and business travellers.
At the same time, Goh acknowledged emerging global challenges, highlighting that ongoing tensions in the Middle East are no longer distant concerns.
“These developments are creating ripple effects worldwide, impacting operational costs and influencing travel patterns and guest demographics,” he added, underscoring the need for resilience and adaptability within the industry.

Following the formal proceedings, members adjourned to a fine dinner hosted by the hotel’s food and beverage team, showcasing warm Malaysian hospitality at its finest. The evening took on a celebratory note with a cake-cutting ceremony in honour of Goh’s upcoming birthday.
Entertainment was provided by a two-piece live band performing evergreen favourites, with guest appearances by Raj and Khoo, who delighted attendees with their musical renditions.
Beyond the formal agenda, the gathering served as a valuable platform for members to reconnect, exchange insights and share the latest developments shaping the hospitality industry.

Sounds like a really positive event for the Penang hospitality scene. It’s great to see industry leaders connecting like this.
