Long-serving aide to YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State Exco for Tourism & Creative Economy, Kyle Choong, 29, was officially admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 15 May 2026 at High Court No. 3, Penang, before Judicial Commissioner YA Dr. Suzana Muhamad Said.

Choong began his journey in public service as an intern in 2018 during Wong Hon Wai’s tenure as Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera. He completed his internship and continued serving as Parliamentary Research Assistant to Wong before  serving under Penang State EXCO Office for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE) in 2023 as a Special Officer.

Over the years, Choong has played an important role in supporting the office in various administrative, coordination, tourism, and public service matters, including major Penang events such as the Penang Bridge International Marathon and the Penang International Dragon Boat Regatta.

Academically, Choong graduated from the University of London before subsequently completing the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP). He later took a gap year from Wong’s office to undertake his pupillage at Messrs Cheong Wai Meng & Van Buerle under the supervision of Ms. Melody Loo Yin Hzia.

Following the completion of his chambering, Choong returned to continue serving in PETACE under Wong Hon Wai. Kyle will also assist at the Paya Terubong constituency service centre in providing legal guidance and assistance to the public.

Wong said he had shared his own journey in law and public service with Choong and has always encouraged young people to pursue their dreams. Wong himself was called to the Bar in 2006.

Choong’s admission ceremony was witnessed by several Penang state assemblyman, namely Chee Yeeh Keen (Bagan Jermal), Joseph Ng Soon Siang (Air Itam), and Wong Yuee Harng (Pengkalan Kota), as well as colleagues from the PETACE office, marking his formal admission as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
