Penang State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo made a courtesy on the Minister of Housing YB Nga Kor Ming to discuss matters of common interest recently.
With the new government in place, the meeting was to discuss long pending issues related to the state of Penang.
“We hope to record our gratitude from the Penang State Government to the new Housing Minister, YB Nga Kor Ming for hosting us at Putrajaya, where a very fruitful meeting was held.
“Amongst them were matters relating to the need for more affordable housing (AH) by the Federal Government, as in Penang itself, we have already achieved 142,000 units ranging from rent to own, low and low medium cost and affordable housing, which includes 73 acres already identified for the federal government to build People’s Housing Projects(PPR).
“Another issue is the assistance for maintenance of public housing, whereby we have at our level already allocated RM325 million. There is also the need to amend many laws in relation to Urban Regeneration in Penang, whereby we are ready with several projects.
“We have also requested more incentives be given to our local government as we have the highest number of smart initiatives such as the Penang Smart Parking system, the use of e-Payments in all our agencies, installation of LED lights and solar systems, which is part of our agenda to be a Green, Smart, Family focused State,” said Jagdeep.
In the meantime, Jagdeep hopes that a speedy solution is found and awaits the good news from the Minister concerned.
