With approximately 80% of Malaysia’s gold and jewellery shipments coming from manufacturers and exporters based in Penang, it is only fair to state that Penang leads in terms of making innovative and skilled gold ornaments.

In line with this, the 10th edition of the Penang Signature Gold, Gems and Jewellery Fair 2026 is currently underway at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre.

Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai launched the showcase

Also present was YB Teh Lai Heng, YB Wong Yuee Harng, Datuk Ivan Chee, President of Penang Goldsmiths & Jewellery Association, Datuk Johnson Lim, CEO of Elite Expo, Ashwin Gunasekeran CEO of Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau anong a host of other guests.

This event is also to celebrate Penang as a hub of creativity and craftsmanship from Penang.

“In 2025, Malaysia’s total jewellery trade surged 22.5% to a record RM22.46 billion, driven by strong growth in both exports and imports and marking an unprecedented level of trade.

“This strong momentum did not ease following last year’s record performance. In the first half of 2026, Malaysia’s total jewellery trade reached RM12.13 billion, representing year-on-year growth of 10%, sustaining the industry’s positive growth trajectory.

“These figures represent far more than trade statistics,” said Wong in his opening address.

He  also shared that over the past ten years, the PSG has grown far beyond being merely an exhibition showcasing exquisite jewellery and craftsmanship.

“Today, it has become an important platform that brings together the latest trends, design concepts, technological innovations and commercial opportunities across the gold and jewellery industry. Exhibitors, buyers, industry professionals and sourcing specialists from around the world have gathered here to exchange ideas, explore partnerships and expand business opportunities.

“Each exquisite piece of gold and jewellery showcased here is not only a product of craftsmanship and aesthetic excellence, but also a bridge that connects markets, facilitates trade and deepens international cooperation.

“Indeed, the past decade has witnessed not only the growth of an exhibition, but also the steady progress of Malaysia’s gold and jewellery industry towards greater internationalisation, professionalism and higher value-added activities,” he said adding that when the world buys Malaysian gold, they are buying Penang craftsmanship.

This was followed by an elaborate showcase of gold ornaments by lanky models. With the official speeches aside, VIP guests joined hands for the ribbon cutting ceremony and also toured the various booths.
