Penang CM YAB Chow Kon Yeow at the launch ceremony
In preparation of any untoward incidents or disasters, a disaster simulation exercise was held at the Prai Bulk Cargo.
Present to launch the event was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow and Penang Port Commission chairman Dato Yeoh Soon Hin.
The exercise was organised by The Disaster Management Unit, Penang State Secretary’s Office in collaboration with the Penang Port Commission (PPC) as the Port Authority and Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. (PPSB) as the port operator.
Also present were heads of departments and other agencies from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department, Ministry of Health, The Malaysian Department of Social Welfare, National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Information Department, State Secretary’s Office, Penang Port Sdn. Bhd., Petronas, Toray Plastics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and other agencies.
This exercise aims to measure the level of preparedness as well as to test the off-site Emergency Plan at Major Hazard Installations and management methods in dealing with disasters by each party involved. PBCT is identified as one of the high risk spots for industrial disasters.
The objective of this exercise is to increase the level of awareness and preparedness of all parties including government agencies and the private sector in the face of industrial disasters.
Also present was the general manager of PPC, Dr. V. Vijayaindiaran, PPC’s Senior Operations and Regulatory Manager Noorlida Saad along with PPC’s Security and Firefighting Services Manager Hamidi.
