Swedish ambassadors from the ASEAN region gathered for their conference in Penang.

They were from Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Hosting them for a cocktail reception was the ambassador of Sweden in Malaysia HE Dr Joachim Bergstrom.

Guest-of-honour was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow along with the State Exco for Youth, Sports and Health, YB Danuel Gooi at the session held at the Blue Mansion here.

Lending support were several consul generals from the various countries based in Penang also made their presence.

Chow conveyed his thanks and appreciation for the investment and technology transfer by Swedish companies operating in Penang. 

“We welcome more investment as we have many countries from the Scandinavian region here in Penang”, said Chow.

In the meantime, Dr Joachim thanked guests for making time to attend the cocktail.

“Sweden is focussed on a cleaner and greener environment along with sustainability, health, human rights and social issues. In line with our on-going “Jom Kita Bincang” roadshow we have brought two popular authors from Stockholm.

“We have also set-up the Swedish Little Library at the Penang Public Library and look forward to more opportunities between Malaysia and Sweden”, added Joachim.

Some 120 guests had a great time mingling and getting to know each other at the session.

  1. It is great to hear about the commendable work of His Excellency Dr. Joachim Bergstrom the Swedish ambassador to Malaysia in collaborating with ambassadors from ASEAN. Social function as such, promote social and cultural exchanges and foster collaboration and innovation vital for sustainable development and economic growth within the ASEAN.
