Penang has once again earned international recognition, receiving fresh accolades from CNN Travel and The New York Times, which have both named the island among the best places to visit in 2026.

This prestigious global endorsement further cements Penang’s reputation as one of Asia’s most vibrant and compelling travel destinations.

The recognition comes at a particularly meaningful time, as 2026 has been designated as Visit Malaysia Year, creating powerful momentum for the nation’s tourism industry.

Penang’s inclusion on these influential travel lists is expected to place the state firmly in the global spotlight, inspiring travellers from around the world to experience its unique blend of heritage, culture, cuisine and natural beauty.

State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai, welcomed the international mention, noting that such recognition from leading global media platforms would significantly enhance Penang’s visibility on the world stage.

He expressed confidence that the accolades would help attract more international and domestic visitors, further boosting the state’s tourism and creative economy as Malaysia prepares to welcome the world in 2026.
