Members of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), Penang Chapter, recently participated in a fruitful B2B session with tourism representatives from Japan’s picturesque Suruga Region.
The session, which received an enthusiastic response from the Penang MATTA team, was led by Chapter Chairperson Ms. Carolyn Leong.
It provided Malaysian travel agents with a deeper understanding of Suruga’s diverse tourism offerings, from its rich cultural heritage to its stunning natural landscapes.
Located in Shizuoka Prefecture along the Pacific coast, the Suruga Region is renowned for its breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, traditional tea plantations, and fresh seafood, particularly from Suruga Bay—the deepest bay in Japan.

Attendees were treated to insights into the region’s famous green tea culture, exquisite sushi and seafood cuisine, as well as immersive nature and cultural experiences such as hot springs, local festivals, and samurai heritage tours.
This engagement marks a promising opportunity for Penang MATTA members to promote Suruga as a unique and enriching travel destination for Malaysian tourists.
With its blend of scenic beauty, authentic Japanese culture, and culinary delights, Suruga is poised to become a sought-after addition to Japan-bound travel itineraries.
The gathering was endorsed by Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO).
