After years of community service, corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects and other charitable deeds, the Penang Hindu Association (PHA) was recognised by the Penang state government with the Heritage Recognition award recently.
On hand was Pn Syerleena Abdul Rashid representing the Chief Minister of Penang who is also the assemblywomen for Seri Delima along with Ms Rachel representing Ram Karpal Singh, Member of Parliament for Bukit Gelugor.
Also present was MBPP Councilor R.Kaliyappan and Dr Ang Ming Chee, General Manager, George Town World Heritage Incorporated and staff.
Representing Penang Hindu Association (PHA) was their advisors and committee members along with Persatuan Penganut Deva Sri Saiva Muneeswarar trustees & committee members and local community members.
“It is a great pleasure to be with all the beloved people and community of Island Glades to celebrate this auspicious Pongal festival. Additionally, to arrange for an important ceremony where a recognition and award entitled ‘Hindu Cultural and Heritage’ by GTWHI Heritage Recognition and Awards.
“PHA takes this opportunity to thank Dr.S. Balasubramaniam and Mrs. K. Poomami for having collected data for the Heritage Board,” said P. Murugiah, President of the Penang Hindu Association
The event also coincided with the Pongal celebrations.
Penang Hindu Association has been an active participant of the cultural and heritage events for the past 10 years based on the theme decided every year.
PHA had participated and supported in all the cultural and heritage events such as ‘Mother’s Love’, Pongal celebration, Kolam drawing, display of traditional items (antique), demonstrating the cooking of traditional food, activities related to Tamil Language, traditional games and pottery making, both handmade and wheel-made.
