YB Jagdeep Singh Deo

Penang has just launched its 81st smart initiative in line with its Vision Penang 2030.

This time around they have launched the Penang Centre of Excellence (CoEX) at the “Digital District” which will see working space for talents and innovators to further the Smart City Agenda.

On hand to launch the event was Penang State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning Jagdeep Singh.

Also present was Penang City Council president Dato Yew Tung Seang and Seberang Perai Council president Dato Rozali Mohmud.

“Vision Penang 2030 aims to be a Family Focused, Smart, Green State that Inspires the Nation.

“Smart Initiatives are very important in battling crises such as the pandemic, whereby we have used technology such as cashless transactions to reduce contact and also CCTV to monitor hotspots and now with the climate crisis, technology can also be used to battle it.

“A live example is our Penang Smart Parking (PSP) which has received many accolades nationally and internationally, which can assist in reducing carbon footprint by directing traffic to available parking lots to reduce unnecessary movement which can cause more carbon emissions during that time. “This is only one of the many examples of technology and smart initiatives that can be used to overcome these crises we face,” said Jagdeep.

Meanwhile, Jagdeep also added that the State will also complete its appointment of new councillors soonest as the tenure of the current ones will expire at the end of the year.

“We have received some 47 applicants from various NGO’s, from various sectors and walks of life have applied to fill in the NGO quotas apart from nominations from various parties,” he added.
