The durian season is back in Penang !
The durians from the state are very popular among locals and even tourists.
In anticipation of the upcoming season, the State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai officiated the durian season launch ceremony at Fort Cornwallis earlier today.
Also present was Pengkalan Kota assemblyman YB Wong Yuee Harng, Penang director for Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Dr Annuar Mohamed, Penang Global Tourism (PGT) chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan, Datin S Barathi (general manager CMI), MAH Penang chairman, Dato Tony Goh, Penang Agriculture Department director Rozita Abdul Hamid among others.
In his address, Wong said that Penang is a paradise for durian lovers as many o them are ripened naturally on the trees.
“Thus the taste cannot be replicated by frozen durians which often lose some of their exquisite texture and quality.
“There are also many varieties in Penang in the likes, of Black Thorn, Red Prawn, Musang King and many more.
“The peak season will last till August and we also thank the Department of Agriculture Penang for their support in this programme”, added Wong.
Among the hotels participating in this promotion are the DoubleTree Resort By Hilton Penang, Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort, St Giles Wembley Penang and Cititel Express Penang.,
So durian lovers try not to miss out on the excellent taste of Penang durians while it is in season.
