Since 2008, Penang Deputy Chief Minister II and Datuk Keramat assemblyman YB Jagdeep Singh Deo has been providing financial assistance to school-going children in his constituency.

Over the years, the number of beneficiaries has steadily increased. This year, a total of 570 students received school vouchers under the annual assistance programme.

The voucher presentation ceremony was held at the Children’s Protection Society in Air Itam. The vouchers will help parents purchase essential school items such as uniforms, shoes, and school bags in preparation for the new school term beginning in 2026.

“This programme is now in its 17th year. Since I was elected as the assemblyman for Datuk Keramat, almost RM800,000 has been spent on this annual initiative to support students,” Jagdeep said.

He added that beneficiaries also include schoolchildren from Ramakrishna Ashrama, Wisma Yatim Pulau Pinang, the Children’s Protection Society, and Persatuan Kaum India Lebuh Macallum.

“Our children are the future of Penang, and that is why it is crucial that their education remains a priority,” he said during the ceremony.

The programme also received support from well-wishers and supporters, including Dato Rethinam Pillay and Dato Gulab Mahatam Rai, who contributed towards the success of the initiative.
