Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow took time earlier this morning to visit the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) at The Light City.

He was accompanied by several Penang State Executive Council (Exco) members, namely YB Wong Hon Wai, State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy; Dato’ Seri S. Sundarajoo, State Exco for Housing and Environment, YB Zairil Khir Johari, State Exco for Infrastructure and Transport; YB Daniel Gooi, State Exco for Youth and Sports and YB Jason H’ng,  State Exco for Local Government, Town and Country Planning.

Also present was Penang Mayor Dato’ A. Rajendran, along with other state government officials.

The visit was hosted by IJM Perennial Development, a joint venture between IJM Corporation Berhad (IJM) and Singapore-based Perennial Holdings Pte Ltd (Perennial), the master developers of The Light City.

The Chief Minister and delegation were welcomed by Datuk Tony Ling Thou Lung, Director of IJM Perennial Development, together with his management team. During the visit, the delegation was given a comprehensive briefing on the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre and the overall The Light City development by Ling and his team.

“This visit marks an important milestone in the journey of THE LIGHT Waterfront Penang. With PWCC now operational, Phase 2 of the development takes a major step forward in positioning Penang as a competitive and credible MICE destination on the global stage,” said Ling.

THE LIGHT Waterfront Penang is an integrated, master-planned development envisioned to transform Penang’s waterfront into a vibrant urban destination. The development has been implemented in phases, beginning with Phase 1, which introduced premium waterfront residences and laid the foundation for a thriving community.

The project has now progressed into Phase 2, with The Light City forming the central precinct and the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre serving as the anchor development. Designed as Penang’s flagship MICE venue, PWCC offers 7,318 square metres of column-free space capable of accommodating up to 10,000 delegates. It is supported by flexible breakout spaces and advanced digital infrastructure, making it the largest convention centre in the Northern Region of Malaysia and a key catalyst in attracting major international events to the state.

The wider development also comprises The Waterfront Shoppes — Penang’s largest waterfront retail mall — alongside The Light Galaxy and JdV by Hyatt hotels, premium office towers, luxury residences, and a 750-metre landscaped waterfront promenade.

Following the briefing, the Chief Minister and his delegation conducted a walkabout of the development to view the latest progress of the project.
