A total of 430 people turned up at the City Stadium which has been turned into a mass screening centre yesterday.
Out of this number, nine individuals were tested positive for Covid-19 and have been advised to be quarantined.
“We hope to screen some 40,000 people from the 40 constituencies in the state.
“We thank members form the Penang City Council, Health Department and the Police to ensure the smooth flow of operations at the stadium,” said state exco for Housing, Local Government and Town & Country Planning, Jagdeep Singh Deo at a press conference in Komtar today.
Similar screening exercises will be carried out in the mainland starting this Saturday (July 10) in Seberang Perai at the Kompleks Sukan Sony and Dewan Besar Sungai Dua on Sunday.
“We are confident more tests can be carried out and we welcome anyone to come for the screening,” said Jagdeep.
“We are also pleased to note that we will enter Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan as we are on the right track.
“Since 10% of the population in Penang has been vaccinated, we are looking forward to the recovery process. We take the 3T approach, namely Testing, Tracing and Treatment in our fight against the pandemic,” he added.
Also present at the press conference was Penang City Council mayor Yew Tung Seang and Seberang Perai Municipal Council mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud.
