The Lion Dance Performance – The highlight of the celebrations was the Lion Dance performance, held yesterday (Feb 17, 2026) from 10am to 11am . The celebrations were graced by ACP Khairul Azhar Nuruddin, Ketua Polis Daerah (KPD) Langkawi along with general manager Danny Yeo, highlighting the strong partnership between the hotel and the local community in marking this auspicious occasion.
Awakening the Lion, A Sacred Tradition
The celebration began with the traditional “Awakening of the Lion” (Cai Qing / Kai Guang) ceremony, an important ritual believed to bring the lion to life and invite blessings. The honoured guest performed the symbolic ritual by gently dipping a calligraphy brush into red ink, representing vitality and prosperity.
The ritual was performed in sequence:
• Forehead – symbolising wisdom and clarity
• Eyes – to awaken the lion’s vision and spirit
• Mouth – to bring abundance and prosperity
• Body – to energise its strength and presence
• Legs – to guide its journey forward
• Tail – to complete the awakening and balance
With each stroke, the lion was believed to be infused with life, ready to share blessings and positive energy with everyone present.
A Trail of Blessings Across the Hotel – Following the awakening ceremony, the Lion Dance commenced its vibrant trail from 10am to 11am on 17 February 2026, accompanied by rhythmic drum beats, cymbals, and gongs that filled Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang with festive energy.
The lion began its journey at the Hotel Entrance, symbolically welcoming prosperity and good fortune to all who entered, before proceeding to the Lobby, where guests, management, and hotel associates gathered to witness the auspicious performance. The trail continued through the Front Office and
guest areas, extending blessings for success and harmony, and into the Rice Garden Restaurant, bringing prosperity to guests enjoying the hotel’s Chinese New Year dining experiences.
The lion then visited the hotel’s Function Room, symbolically extending blessings for successful meetings, celebrations, and events throughout the year, followed by the Poolside area, where its lively presence brought festive cheer and prosperity to one of the hotel’s key guest spaces. The trail continued to Housekeeping, Finance, F&B Office, and Sales & Marketing Office, spreading good fortune across the hotel’s operational and administrative teams, before concluding at the General Manager’s Office, representing strong leadership, continued growth, and prosperity for the hotel and its team.
The presence and participation of the hotel’s leadership team and inter-departmental associates, including representatives from the Rooms Division, Culinary, Front Office, Housekeeping, F&B, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Engineering, and Talent & Culture, highlighted Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang’s commitment to fostering meaningful cultural celebrations within the workplace and guest community. Throughout the trail, guests were delighted by the lion’s expressive movements and interactive moments, with many capturing photographs and sharing in the joyous celebration, creating lasting memories for all in attendance.
