Karnival Komtar 2025 in December

Since the Komtar building was completed in 1985, it has become an icon representing Penang. Komtar is not only the tallest building in Penang, but also the administrative center of the Penang State Government as well as the city center. 

State assemblyman for Komtar YB Teh Lai Heng held a press conference to announce the details of the programme. 

“To attract more visitors to Komtar, I periodically organize and hold various programs at Komtar. One of the largest programs organized there was the “Karnival Komtar”; which took place back in 2019.

“That program received a positive response from visitors and initially, we intended to make it an annual event. 

“Unfortunately, in the following year, Covid-19 pandemic hit our country followed by a Movement Control Order (MCO), thus ruining the plan. In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Komtar being built, we decided to relaunch the Carnival, the “Karnival Komtar 2025″ to celebrate this momentous occasion,” he added.

He added that this 40th anniversary celebration is very meaningful because it not only serves as a retrospective of Komtar but will also serve as a new starting point for Komtar. 

“During the carnival, we will be displaying old photos of Komtar as well as the original model of the Komtar development project.

“Here, I would also like to ask for assistance from the public, if you have any old photos, documents or books related to Komtar or Komtar’s History, could you kindly contact my service center as we hope to borrow the materials to be displayed together during the carnival. It is my hope that by discovering and sharing the lesser-known side of Komtar’s history, we can see it in a new light and be able to appreciate it better,” said Teh.

The carnival will last for three days, from December 5th (Friday) to December 7th (Sunday), starting from 10am to 8pm. 

It will be held simultaneously at the 3rd and 4th floor of Komtar, in Tech Dome Penang along other locations within Komtar.

The opening ceremony will be officiated by our YAB Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang.

“I hope that the vendors and store owners within Komtar could work together with our carnival to liven up the atmosphere in order to attract even more visitors to Komtar.

“Various exciting activities have been prepared for visitors, including free tours in Penang Tech Dome, a gel blaster gun trial zone, e-sports competitions, drawing competition for children and many more,” said Teh.

He called upon everyone to come and celebrate Komtar’s Anniversary together and learn about the history of this building that has accompanied the people of Penang for 40 years.
