
The Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia celebrated its Independence and National Day 2026 yesterday (March 26, 2026).
On this occasion, members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community from various professions, students, remittance earners, journalists, representatives of civil
society and officials and staff of the High Commission participated enthusiastically in the program.
The day’s program commenced with the hoisting of the national flag. Following the flag
hoisting, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyrs of the Great Liberation War and a special prayer (dua and munajat) was offered for the eternal peace of their souls.
Subsequently, messages from His Excellency the President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Hon’ble Foreign Minister and the Hon’ble State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out.
The messages were delivered by Defence Adviser of the High Commission Commodore Md.Hasan Tariq Mondal, Counsellor (Political) and Head of Chancery Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, Counsellor (Labour) Syed Shariful Islam and Third Secretary (Political) Mohammad. Tanzim Husain.
A documentary provided by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Independence and National Day was screened. This was followed by a discussion session where distinguished members and leaders of the Bangladeshi expatriate community spoke on the significance of the day.
Among the speakers were remittance warrior Robin, journalist Md. Aminul Islam
Ratan, professional Bedoura Nazneen, Mahbub Alam Shah and engineer Md. Badlur Rahman Khan. The speakers highlighted the spirit of the Liberation War, the sacrifices of the martyrs and the importance of national unity.
The Chief Guest, His Excellency High Commissioner Mr. Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, in his remarks stated, “The sacrifices of our brave martyrs in achieving independence will remain forever etched in the history of our nation. Their sacrifice is a source of inspiration for us and a shining example for future generations.”
Following the discussion, a cultural program was held. Patriotic songs were performed and poems on Independence Day were recited. The performances emphasized the importance of independence, patriotism and the vision of building a non-discriminatory, democratic, peaceful, and prosperous Bangladesh.
Through the celebration of Independence and National Day, Bangladeshi expatriates living in Malaysia reaffirmed their commitment to the country, their deep patriotism and the spirit of unity.
