The inaugural autoMEX Penang 2025 was launched by Deputy Chief Minister 11 YB Jagdeep Singh Deo at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre earlier today.

Some 80 industry partners are taking part in the exhibition held over the next three days.

Guest of honour was Deputy Chief Minister 11 Yb Jagdeep Singh Deo. Also present was Gerard Leeuwenburgh, Country General Manager of Informa Markets Malaysia and Dato’ Seri Wong Siew Hai, President of the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association.

In all, more than 400 industry players attended the official launch ceremony which also showcases cutting edge technology.

“Penang has been recognised as the Silicon Valley of the East – a title we have earned through decades of innovation, resilience, and world-class manufacturing excellence. And today, with AUTOMEX making its debut here, we are taking that leadership to another level.

“I also commend Informa Markets Malaysia for your vision in bringing this platform to Penang, and the Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association (MSIA) for co-hosting the Silicon Malaysia Conference 2025.

“We contribute nearly 30% of Malaysia’s total E&E exports and host over 350 multinational corporations alongside thousands of SMEs – forming one of the strongest industrial ecosystems in the region,” said Jagdeep.

He also highlighted that In the first half of 2025, Penang recorded RM12.5 billion in approved manufacturing investments — a 150% year-on-year increase from the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Leeuwenburgh shared his enthusiasm to see all of the guests at the official opening of AUTOMEX Penang 2025.

“I must say – it feels great to be in Penang! A state that truly needs no introduction when it comes to manufacturing excellence. For more than 14 years, we have brought together the best in automation, robotics, and precision engineering. But industries evolve – and so must we.

“That’s why we are here today. By bringing AUTOMEX to Penang, we’re not just expanding our footprint – we’re strengthening our commitment to Malaysia’s manufacturing ecosystem,” added.

Wong said that the conference brings together the brightest minds from across Malaysia and beyond, leaders, innovators, and partners: all sharing one mission: to shape the future of our semiconductor and electronics industry.

“Our theme this year, “Made by Malaysia”, is not just a slogan. It is a statement of intent. It reflects our purpose, our capability and our ambition to lead, not only in what we manufacture, but in what we can design, develop, and imagine.

“Malaysia’s semiconductor and E&E industry has a proud legacy. From humble beginnings in 1972, we have grown into a trusted global hub, earning the confidence of the world through quality, performance, innovation, and resilience,” added Wong.

He also reminded that to stay competitive, Malaysia must evolve in step with these changes, especially in areas such as wafer fabrication, advanced packaging, automation, AI and IC Design.

After the official launching ceremony, Jagdeep and other VIP guests toured the booths to see for themselves the various products on display.
