With the recent announcement of the Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz that the iconic ferry will continue its services, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow welcomed the move.
Tengku Zafrul also announced that the the Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) will have to take over the services from Prasarana Malaysia Berhad from Jan 1, 2021.
Tengku Zafrul made the announcement at the Dewan Rakyat today.
He also added that there will be an allocation of RM30 million towards the continuation of the ferry services.
“The RM30 million allocation will be made in instalments of two payments. The first RM15 million will be made in 2021 and has been included in the Supply Bill 2021.
“The remaining RM15 million will be prepared,” said Tengku Zafrul.
Meanwhile. Chow expressed that the Penang government wanted the ferry service to continue to serve the locals and visitors to the island.
