Hunza Properties Berhad’s Penang International Commercial City (PICC) achieved a major milestone when they held the ground breaking ceremony for Phase 2 of their mega project here.

Present at the ground breaking ceremony was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow along with State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo.

Playing host was founder Datuk Seri Khor Teng Tong, group managing director Dato Khor Siang Gin, board of directors and their team.

Phase 2 of PICC will have a shopping mall, an international standard hotel, Global Business Services (GBS) hub and office spaces.

In congratulating Hunza Properties on their 45th anniversary and their new project, Chow added that the project will further exemplify Penang’s potential as Malaysia’s major economic getaway while expanding the variety of job opportunities in the state.

“The components within Phase 2 will also play a significant role in supporting the growth of Penang, particularly in the Southwest district, which is also home to our Silicon Valley of the East.

“I was also made to understand that a 3-tower serviced residence, namely SENZE@PICC will cater for the housing needs of our incoming talents into Penang.

“The Central Park will support the state’s vision as a “Family-Focussed, Green and Smart” state that inspires the nation,” added Chow.

Earlier, Datuk Khor shared that when they bought the land in 2010, they knew of the uphill task with the existing squatter settlement. However, their founder held to his principles and social responsibility and went out on to create a moment of history in the history.

“We dedicated a total of RM100 million to assist in the relocation of the 823 squatters on the land by way of monetary compensation or even a brand new unit of housing. We do it right for the people !, he exclaimed.

SENZE will have 1,680m furnished freeholds spread over 3 towers.  The mix development has a combined long-term investment value of RM1.3 to RM1.5 billion. They will also create some 15,000 job opportunities.

They have also set aside RM130 million for road widening and upgrades, flyovers, LRT station and an underpass around PICC.

Meanwhile, Jagdeep congratulated Hunza Properties on their launch of Phase 2 and also hailed their role to provide affordable housing at The Milleannia project in Bukit Gedung offering some 1,260 units for locals.
