In celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, popular local brand, Ghee Hiang has launched its special edition pastry product today.

They have a rich history being founded in 1856 in Penang, they will also give away free gifts specially for Chinese tourists (from China) who visit their outlets in Penang. 

Present at the launch ceremony was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Wai along with Madam Ding Qiao, Deputy Consul General from the Consulate -General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang and the Dato Raschada Jiwalai, Consul General from the Royal Thai Consulate in Penang. 

The promotion is also to celebrate the ever increasing number of direct flights from China to Penang. 

The offer is only for Chinese tourists (from China) flying in to Penang or via cruise ships to Penang. They are entitled to collect their free gifts at their outlets in Macalister Road,  Beach Street, Burmah  Road or Ayer Itam.

They will have to produce their boarding pass and their passports to redeem their gifts. However, the offer is only available till stocks last.

In his address, Wong praised Ghee Hiang for being the first business premises to offer free gifts to Chinese tourists coming to Penang.

“They have also partnered with several local businesses such as Glow Planet, Aroema Spa, and popular cafes to provide cash vouchers, ensuring that our guests can fully enjoy the best that Penang has to offer.

“Recently, we have seen a significant growth in the number of Chinese tourists coming to Penang reflecting our state’s appeal and the strengthening ties between our nations.

“Penang is even more accessible with more direct flights from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai. Meanwhile, Penang Hill is among their favourite tourist destinations as Chinese tourist rank No 1 among the visitors”, added Wong.

Meanwhile, the executive director of Ghee Hiang Dato Ch’ng Huck Theng said that their new product features the legendary baby character holding a tiger and panda.

“It symbolises the friendship between China and Malaysia. This introduction offers Chinese travellers the opportunity to savour a variety of pastries that represent Penang’ rich culinary heritage”, he shared.

The highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the new products and sampling of the pastries.

Also present was Penang MAH chairman, Dato Tony Goh, Penang FMM president Dato Seri Lee Teong Li, Clement Liang, president of Penang Tourist Guide Association among others.
