Some 1,000 people made up of donors and well-wishers of Persatuan Penganut Thiru Arut Prakasa Vallalar Penang gathered at the SJKC Shang Wu in Ayer Itam for a fundraising dinner. 

Guest-of-honour was Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu State Exco for Housing and Environment along with Penang Mayor Dato A.  Rajendran and his wife.

The proceeds from the fundraiser will be used for the building of their new building.

Also present was the chairman of the charity organisation Ravi Tandathabani, organising chairman of the dinner R  Sathiaseelan and their committee members. 

Lending support to the event was were members of Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base in Butterworth.

Meanwhile, the home located in Batu Maung currently houses 32 old folks of all races who have been abandoned by their families are given accommodation, meals, exercise and medical care too so that they can live a dignified life. 

The inmates are mostly from Kedah,  Perak and Penang.

So far, various non-governmental organisations and several corporate sector representatives have come forward to support the home.

They have now purchased a house in Batu Maung at a cost of RM700,000 along with the neighbouring piece of land thanks to generous donors.

The new two-story building is expected to cost over RM1.5 million for construction. In praising the good work of home, Sundarajoo also pledged RM10,000 towards the good cause as other donors followed suit.. 

There was also a lucky draw session and raffle draw for guests.
