In conjunction with World Environment Day, Sunway Carnival Mall celebrates with its month-long sustainability initiative, the “From Waste to Wonder” campaign, running from June 5 to 30, 2025.

This campaign supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 15: Life on Land. Reflecting Sunway Carnival Mall’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and waste reduction, the mall has achieved a remarkable 40% decrease in waste sent to landfills to date.

This demonstrates the profound impact of collective responsibility and conscious consumption within the community. Central to the campaign is the collection of food waste from mall tenants, which is then transformed into natural compost fertilizer in partnership with K-Green.

Currently, all of their F&B tenants participate in this initiative. This nutrient-rich compost is distributed to our shoppers and surrounding community, helping to nurture local green spaces and inspire a cycle of care and renewal within the community. “From Waste to Wonder” aims to create a ripple effect of change, reminding everyone that sustainable living begins with us. Through regular door-to-door outreach, Sunway Carnival Mall actively educates tenants on proper waste segregation, ensuring responsible waste management is a shared priority.

’In line with Sunway’s dedication to Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, the mall’s Hari Raya 2025 decorations showcase innovative upcycling efforts. The trunks of the Pinang trees are crafted from used flower pots, transforming discarded materials into stunning art installations. After the festive season, one of the trees has been relocated to the mall’s Power Up Together station, giving them a second life and extending their environmental message.

The Power Up Together station invites shoppers to generate electricity by pedaling stationary bikes. Located on the First Floor, New Wing near Haidilao Hotpot, this interactive initiative encourages energy mindfulness by allowing participants to charge their mobile devices through pedal power. It also promotes healthy, active lifestyles and family bonding in a fun and sustainable setting.

Sunway Carnival Mall’s sustainability efforts extend beyond waste reduction. The CAREton Project, in collaboration with Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (MBSP) and Tetra Pak, recycles used beverage cartons into durable roof tiles and panel boards. These materials are donated to Orang Asli homes, NGOs, and community projects, fostering social impact through innovative recycling. Additionally, the mall harvests rainwater from its rooftops for cleaning and landscaping purposes, significantly reducing potable water consumption and conserving water resources.

Chai Wen Yew, Senior General Manager of Sunway Carnival Mall, shares, “Every small step adds up towards a more sustainable tomorrow. Through collaborative efforts and community engagement, we hope to inspire lasting environmental change.”

Together with the community, Sunway Carnival Mall remains committed to nurturing a greener future—one thoughtful action at a time.
