Fighting climate change with one mangrove seedling at a time

Any small step to climate change is much welcomed.

Braving the muddy and difficult conditions, Penang caretaker government’s committee chairman for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning, Mr Jagdeep Singh Deo and his team took part in a mangrove seedlings planting programme.

The much welcomed deed was carried out in Malindo in Balik Pulau.

“Climate crisis must not be taken lightly and we must never compromise on being family focussed, which is part of Vision Penang 2030.

“We are happy to witness the planting of 3,300 mangrove trees at Malindo, Balik Pulau, which is part of our 446,266 trees having been planted since 2008in Penang, which is now 90% of our target of 500,000.

“This is also part and parcel of many other efforts being taken in our Green Agenda such as installation of LED (100% on Penang Island and 40% on the Mainland), installation of solar panels at all our government buildings, and having Green Buildings,” said Jagdeep.

Later in the morning, he also joined the JPWK family day at Datok Keramat City Stadium and also the “Jagdeep Singh Deo’ Sepak Takraw tournament” at Patani Road Hall in Datok Keramat.
