Renowned as a popular and long-standing tourist attraction in Penang, Entopia celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
Present at a press conference to announce details of the celebration was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy Yb Wong Hon Wai who was accompanied by Entopia Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director Joseph Goh and his team members.
Wong congratulated Entopia for achieving their historic 40th anniversary and also for launching a myriad of promotions to go along with the momentous occasion.
“Over the past four decades, Entopia has grown into one of Penang’s most iconic natural attractions. It has welcomed millions of visitors from Malaysia and around the world, while playing an important role in promoting nature learning, biodiversity education and eco-tourism,” he said.
Presently among the top five foreign visitors to the Entopia are from China, Singapore, Australia, United Kingdom and United States of America.
“I am therefore very pleased to see Entopia launching its 40th Anniversary Celebration, which will feature a year-long Calendar of Discovery filled with programmes and initiatives throughout 2026.
“Among the highlights announced is the Entopia Discovery Pass, a reimagined annual pass programme that builds on previous membership concepts while adapting to the needs of today’s visitors.
“This initiative encourages repeat visits and deeper engagement, allowing visitors to experience Entopia not just as a one-time attraction, but as an evolving journey. From a tourism perspective, this is highly valuable as it supports longer engagement and strengthens visitor connection to the destination.
“The introduction of the Entopia Discovery Challenge, with prizes worth up to RM100,000, will further create excitement and encourage sustained participation throughout the year, contributing to a more vibrant and dynamic tourism calendar.
“I would also like to commend Entopia for introducing a special 40th anniversary promotion for Penang residents, where the Discovery Pass is offered at RM40 instead of RM200 for 40 days beginning 29 March. All of these promotions augur well since it is Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he added.
Other incentives such as the “Entrance on Us” programme, a 40% Twinning Bundle for school groups and a special RM40 rate for secondary school students reflects a thoughtful approach to making experiential learning more accessible. These initiatives not only encourage greater participation from schools, but also recognise and support educators who actively bring learning beyond the classroom.
“Another exciting highlight is the Bug Festival scheduled for July, which will celebrate the fascinating world of insects through educational and family-friendly activities. Programmes like this are especially valuable in nurturing curiosity and awareness among younger generations about the importance of biodiversity.
“Today’s announcement also includes an important step in Entopia’s brand evolution, where the organisation will streamline its identity by focusing on the Entopia brand, with the removal of the descriptor “by Penang Butterfly Farm” from its logo,” sahed Wong.
Lending support was Dato’ Ch’ng Huck Theng, Chairman of ATAP, Dr Annuar bin Mohamad Director of MOTAC Penang, Ashwin Gunasekeran CEO of Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), Ooi Chok Yan CEO of Penang Global Tourism (PGT) among others.
