In line with the “Responsible Tourism” guidelines initiated by the Penang State Government, they will work with relevant authorities to ensure all standards operating procedures (SOP) are upheld at all times.
Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, Yeoh Soon Hin ensured that working closely with the Penang Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) and Northeast District Tourism Police Unit in planning patrols to popular tourism sites in the state to maintain public safety.
“The relevant enforcement authorities are prepared to conduct patrols in bicycles to inspect and ensure compliance of Standard Operating Procedures, especially with high volume of tourists expected over the coming long weekend.
“This initiative is aligned with the updated “Responsible Tourism” guidelines that was launched in 21 October 2021.
“We cannot be complacent and we certainly cannot let our guards down despite rejoicing over a long weekend.
“Face mask, social distancing and regular sanitisation are still vital in this ongoing battle against Covid-19,” said Yeoh.
He commended the Royal Malaysia Police for establishing the Tourism Police Unit that is tasked to monitor and ensure the safety of tourists, which is well-aligned with the state-led “Responsible Tourism” campaign.
“In these recent weeks, we have observed increased tourist traffic in Penang. The patrols by the Tourism Police Unit will give a sense of safety and confidence to our travellers,” he said after visiting one of the patrolling sessions at Esplande with Penang JPKK Head SAC Mohd Nasri Omar.
He further stressed that everyone plays a role in curbing the spread of Covid-19 and that the transition to an endemic is a collective effort of all parties.
“The full revival of tourism economy can only be achieved when all parties work in harmony towards a common goal,” added Yeoh.
